Biking in Sanders County

Biking tours throughout our scenic highways is a favorite pastime amongst regional and national cycling associations. Adventure Cycling promotes one of our highways on their Northern Tier Route from Sandpoint, ID to Cut Bank, MT. Enjoy beautiful Highway 56 from Noxon to Troy along the Bull River OR head up Hwy 28 east of Plains toward Hot Springs and Flathead Lake! There are many clubs who coordinate with individual communities in Sanders County to accommodate travel and lodging/camping facilities. Enjoy parks in Thompson Falls, the Fairgrounds in Plains, and the warm waters of Hot Springs, MT. Call Montana Tour 200 today to connect with the community along your Scenic Sanders Route!

The trail runs through the Lolo National Forest, hugging the east bank of the Clark Fork River from Paradise to St. Regis. The smooth, nine mile single-track is almost entirely rideable; it’s a lot of fun as you roll up and down through thick forest, open meadow sections and dive down to the river banks surrounded by dark, lush old growth forest. Enjoy the solitude where the only sounds you hear are the rushing river, an occasional train across the canyon and the birds. Technical, lush and and well worth it to ride this out of the way place. Just another secret gem hidden in Sanders County, Montana!

Directions: From I-90 northwest of Missoula exit at Highway 135 at St. Regis OR head south on #135 from Highway 200 West east of Paradise. The parking lot and trail head are located at MM 14 on the west side of the highway by the 14 Mile Bridge. Trail is 9 miles each way (18 round-trip) and starts under train tressel.

Once you’re done biking, check out the hot springs to soak weary muscles available at Quinn’s Hot Springs, located a couple of miles north of the trail head on Highway 135.
